My Personal Story
My name is Tina Rosa and I am a Registered Holistic Nutritionist. My story started long ago when I was a noticeably young woman trying to navigate through what I thought at the time was a world of judgment. Wanting to be accepted is an integral part of young life, and unfortunately like many other young women, I felt the best way to achieve this was through my weight and appearance.
Whether we feel we wish we could lose our “chubby” or shape our “bird legs,” our appearance tends to play an exaggerated and unjust role in developing our self-esteem.
The whirlwind had started. Low-fat, no-fat, no dairy, lean meats, vegetarian, vegan, high protein, low carb, fasting, liquid diet, you name it I did it.
That is how I started, but far from where I landed!
Through self-awareness and my quest for the “perfect body” I discovered something else. I discovered that I LOVED to run. Not in a competitive way, but in a way that made me feel energized and alive. I discovered I loved to weight train and climb things and dance and MOVE! I had discovered exercise and was feeling the incredible benefits of it and how great it made me feel. I dove into fitness and learned everything I could about it. I became a personal trainer and helped others do the same. This continued for several years into my adult life.
This is where my story gets more involved. I wanted to take my own training to another level. Stepping into that world introduced me to a few things my body was not used to. Protein powders. Energy drinks. Pre-workout and post-workout concoctions. Single ingredient supplementation like amino acids and creatine.
I felt it in my gut, which we need to listen to a lot more, that this was not for me. I would continuously have indigestion. I would have bouts of terrible stomach pain. Sometimes the cramps were so bad it would PREVENT me from my beloved exercise. There had to be a way to get all the nutrition I needed from REAL FOOD. I started researching and learning as much as I could about HOW food fuels us. What are its mechanisms in the body? Why are some foods better for us than others? This deep diving led me to The Canadian School of Natural Nutrition.
Here I had found the missing piece that I had been searching for and finally found…. proper nutrition from whole food is key in sustaining health and happiness throughout life. My reward is seeing the benefits that others can achieve by implementing the same principles.
